Samantha Dominik is a visual artist from New York. Through sculpture and installation, Dominik's work deals with memory, relationships, nostalgia and loss through the lens of her suburban upbringing. These associations are drawn from familiar objects, human-like forms, and simulated environments.
Dominik received her BFA from Adelphi University, and her MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. She currently lives and works in New York, centering on her studio and working in higher education.
I am home. Traveling through the labyrinth within my mind; a haunted house full of whispers and shadows. I am home. Long corridors and locked doors. Crawl spaces created by the things I wish I could forget. I am home. Curtains with no windows behind them, a phone with no receiving end, doors that lead to nowhere. I am home. Father. Mother. Sister. I am home. I am home.
What is home? A place, a person, a feeling? Our consciousness is our home, and our memories are the rooms within it. My work revisits domestic spaces and symbols of the home through my own retrospection.
